Business Incubators across Malawi Open a Call for Ideas

Business Incubators, across Malawi, that have partnered with Zantchito Entrepreneurship and Access to Finance have opened their Calls for Ideas.

Application to a Call for Ideas is an opportunity for Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational Education Training (TEVET) graduates, Graduates with Ideas, and Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) to access comprehensive business incubation support.

The Calls for Ideas look to attract applicants for the 2023/24 cohort of incubates with at least 3,800 Idea-Stage Entrepreneurs targeted to be supported by the programme over its implementation period.

Business incubation is a concept in which entrepreneurs, that have a skill in a particular trade, or have an innovative idea in a specific sector, are subjected to an intensive support programme that nurtures the idea or the skill into an enterprise.

During incubation, incubates are supported with Business Development Services (BDS) such as idea testing, prototype development, business coaching, buyer linkages, financial skills, mentorship, marketing strategy, standards, and certification.

The incubators that have opened their Call for Ideas, in partnership with Zantchito Entrepreneurship and Access to Finance, are Mzuzu E-Hub, NxtGen Labs, the Agribiz Hub within Transformative Agriculture Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship (TACE) at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) Business Incubation Centre, DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School, and Dzuka Africa.

Information regarding each Call for Ideas is available via a published Eligibility Criteria and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

Applications can be made online or through a physical application form. This ensures the targeting of young people from both urban and rural settings. In general, the application process involves registration, to ensure eligibility as an applicant, and the completion of an entrepreneurial readiness tool. Thereafter, the eligible applicants are invited to submit their business idea application.

The deadline for submitting the business ideas varies across the incubators, and more information can be accessed by clicking on the incubators below.
